There seems to be hope on the horizon for PREMA Racing's IndyCar future. The Italian team made its debut in the American open-wheel racing series in 2025 with rookie driver Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott.
Considering it was the team's rookie season, there were no lofty expectations. However, PREMA's Indy 500 effort became the story of the year after Shwartzman took a shocking pole position for the race as a rookie. Though the rest of the season wasn't on par with that, Ilott ensured the team concluded on a high with four Top 10s in the last five races.
It was after that that the hurdles amplified. PREMA Racing didn't have enough funding to continue in IndyCar in 2026. A lot was spoken about its future, including updates from IndyCar president Doug Boles. However, none of the updates had a concrete yes-or-no on PREMA's participation in the upcoming season.

That Ilott post in front of the facility this week was an encouraging sign. Always a tough step to start in a series when all your competitors have so much experience with the long-established platform, but they really showed promise. It would be a shame if they are on the grid in a couple of months.
