Two time CART Champion, Four-time Paralympic Gold Medalist, there was none other than Alex Zanardi.

The Italian, who after losing his legs in a crash at the 2001 American Memorial Eurospeedway Lausitz kept persevering and becoming an inspiration to millions, passed away at the age of 59.

After running up the F1 ladder, by winning the European F3 Cup, Zanardi found a seat at Chip Ganassi Racing in 1996 and never looked back. Teaming with American Jimmy Vasser, Zanardi took 15 wins from 28 podiums and two titles in three seasons.

Following his crash in Germany, Alex found success in sports cars, winning in touring cars, and competing in the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Alex not only found success in four wheels, but three as well, competing in the Paralympics and several marathons in the hand cycling division.

Multiple series not only have offered condolences, but have memorials to the fast Italian, showing the respect he garnered throughout the racing world.

Alex was survived by his wife Daniella and his son Niccolo.
